We have asked all residents to list 3 things they would like to do or accomplish in their lifetime. Our staff then sits down and comes up with ideas on how to make their “wish” come true. We pick these wishes at random and fulfill their dreams. Some examples of Brookstone Wishes are a resident wanted to go to Texas to see her brother in law who was living in an assisted living facility there. We could not make the actual trip to Texas so we did the best next thing! We surprised her in the dining room with a cowboy hat and cactus and told her since we could not get her to Texas we were bringing Texas to her. We had it arranged with her family to set up Skype with her brother in law and on a Saturday, her family came to Brookstone while her brother in law’s family were in Texas and we set up Skype on a laptop so the families could visit. The families were so appreciative of this chance to get to actually see each other & visit!
We had another resident that just wished to ride in a golf cart and see the greenery and flowers. We partnered with our local golf course and made her wish come true. The golf course went above & beyond by setting up a tent and table with white linens and china dishes and even chilled sparkling cider on the 9th hole. Some of our staff took her on a ride on the golf cart while other staff got all of her family to the 9 th hole without her knowing. When she came over the hill on the golf cart, there was all of her family meeting her there and we provided a chicken dinner picnic. She was even able to golf. We brought tears to her eyes when she saw all of this and I can honestly say, there were no dry eyes in our group.
of our residents has been here since the building opened. Her wish was
to have her room painted baby blue. We had her family come &
get her for the day and the staff rolled in early and completely gutted
her apartment and bathroom and gave her the baby blue she wanted along
with all new flooring in her bathroom and new carpet throughout.. It
completed it by having fresh flowers in her
room & a ribbon cutting ceremony when she returned to the facility.
