Meridian Communities Raised Funds and Awareness on The Longest Day

Meridian Senior Living communities across the nation supported The Longest Day® event on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, to raise awareness and funds to advance the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.

The Longest Day is a team event held annually on the summer solstice to support Alzheimer’s Association’s mission to fight Alzheimer’s disease. Including the most hours of daylight, this bright day symbolizes people across the globe fighting the darkness of Alzheimer’s through fundraising activities. Approximately 25 Meridian communities across the nation formed teams to participate in this event by engaging in exciting activities and honoring individuals living with the disease.

For this special day, Meridian communities used purple décor, which is the Alzheimer’s Association’s color of unity, while hosting blueberry and lemonade stands among other fundraising activities. Some notable Longest Day events for 2022 included community staff wearing themed costumes while selling goods or services such as special dinners, blueberry muffins, lemonade, smoothies, gift baskets, and other delicious baked treats. This year Meridian communities collectively raised over $18,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Meridian Senior Living is proud to support The Longest Day and the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association diligently provides valuable support services to individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, while also supporting crucial research,” says Sue Johnston, VP of Program Development. “We understand the challenges of Alzheimer’s that individuals, families, and companies face, so we are dedicated to supporting the Alzheimer’s Association in their efforts to fund research for a cure.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6.5 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's disease in 2022, which was the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States in 2019. In 2021, family members and friends delivered more than $271 billion in unpaid care to loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Our communities work every day to improve the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s and to become a resource for their families and caregivers. With Meridian’s Montessori Moments in Time™ program, memory care communities, and the compassionate individuals who make up the teams there, strive to enrich lives and infuse purpose into each and every day.
